Remove the password from a PDF, along with the restrictions that prevent printing it, copying its text or editing it. If the PDF asks for a password to open, you need to know it: you enter it once and get a copy that opens without asking for it. If it only has printing or copying restrictions, no password is needed. Use this tool only with PDFs that belong to you or that you have permission to unlock.
Unlocking your PDF takes a few seconds:
Select or drag and drop the protected PDF.
If the PDF asks for a password to open, type it in the corresponding field.
If it only has printing or copying restrictions, leave the password blank.
Click the button: the encryption and all restrictions are removed.
Download the unlocked PDF, which will open without a password.
The open password prevents the file from being opened; the permissions password only limits printing, copying or editing. This tool removes both, but for the open password you need to know the password.
Only the encryption is removed: the text, images, fonts and links in the PDF stay exactly the same.
The tool does not try to crack unknown passwords. If the password is incorrect, it tells you so and no file is generated.
Removing protection from your own documents saves steps:
Statements and invoices: banks and vendors often send them with a password; unlock them to file or forward them without having to share the password.
Printing: remove the restriction that prevents printing a document of yours.
Copying text: enable text selection and copying in a PDF with limited permissions.
Editing: unlock the PDF so you can merge it, number it or add a watermark.
The password is case-sensitive: type it exactly as it is.
On bank statements, the password is often your ID number or part of it; check the email it arrived with.
Store the unlocked PDF in a safe place: it's no longer protected.
If you need to protect it again with a different password, use Protect PDF.
Upload the PDF, type the password if it asks for one when opening, and click the button. You'll download a copy that opens without a password.
If the PDF asks for a password to open, no: you need to know it. If it only has printing or copying restrictions, those can be removed without a password.
