X% of Y = X × Y ÷ 100. For example, 15% of 200 is 30.
X is (X ÷ Y) × 100% of Y. For example, 50 is 25% of 200.
(Y − X) ÷ |X| × 100. Going from 80 to 100 is a 25% increase; going from 100 to 80 is a 20% decrease.
Percentages come up in many everyday decisions:
Discounts: calculate how much you'll pay for a product with 30% off.
Salary or price increases: check the new value after a raise.
Taxes and tips: add sales tax or a tip to an amount.
Grades and statistics: calculate what percentage of answers you got right.
A 20% discount followed by another 20% discount is not 40%: it's 36%. Apply them one after the other.
Going up 25% and then down 25% doesn't leave you where you started: you end up 6.25% lower.
To convert a percentage to a decimal, divide by 100: 15% = 0.15.
If the change is negative, it's a decrease.
Multiply the number by the percentage and divide by 100. 15% of 200 is 200 × 15 ÷ 100 = 30.

Subtract the starting value from the final value, divide by the starting value and multiply by 100. The percent change card does it for you.
Divide the part by the total and multiply by 100. For example, 45 out of 60 is 75%.
